Another son of Mrs Wm. Smith, George, married Bella Macpherson, and they
emigrated to America and latterly moved to Canada, and settled there. In
1914, when the Great War broke out, like all the
noble Scots across the seas, he joined the Canadian Army, and after
training came across to England with the regiment. He paid a flying
visit to Aberdeen before crossing to France, and in one of the great
battles was seriously wounded and died in one of the hospitals in France;
one of the many sons of Scotland to give their lives for King and country
and the freedom of the World. His widow still remains in Canada.
